Tethered by Letters (TBL) is a nonprofit organization that helps writers publish their works. TBL offers free, professional editing services for writers who submit their works, whether or not they are published in TBL's literary journal. By pairing editors with members, TBL builds reputation for authors and facilitates publishing.
TBL empowers novice writers to find their literary voices and jumpstart their careers. Through articles about writing and publishing, free editing services, and publishing help, TBL equips writers with the tools to be successful in the publishing industry.
After the publication of her first novel at the age of eighteen, D.M. Hedlund discovered how difficult publishing is without support and industry connections. Hedlund vowed to help authors navigate this difficult process and founded TBL in 2007 to offer free coaching for writing, networking, and publishing.
TBL's membership grew globally as passionate people joined the cause. When Carley Tacker started working with TBL in 2010, she helped create the literary journal. Specializing in unsolicited works, this publishing outlet overcomes the paradox of needing an agent to publish but needing published works to acquire an agent.
Today, with staff spanning three continents, TBL has thousands of writers and readers, publishes countless literary works, and has helped over fifty authors to achieve their dreams of seeing their works in print.
TBL is a talented, eccentric, and passionate international community of writers, editors, and publishers from diverse backgrounds. TBL's community is pivotal to the organization's success, forming a support group that helps writers improve their craft, stay motivated, and network to facilitate publishing.
TBL offers many ways for the community to grow through multiple publications and interactive forums. In the monthly publications, the Noteworthy and the Bolide, TBL publishes short stories and flash fictions by its talented members, exposing their works to a wide audience and peer review. Dually Noted, a weekly publication, offers a unique group writing experience, while the Literary Sittery offers a forum for members to discuss writing and literature. Tethered Tidings features monthly interviews with best-selling authors about their novels, writing process, and publishing experiences, including a week of questions from TBL members in the Literary Sittery.
