In D.M. Hedlund’s review and interview, “A Life in a Snapshot,” Josie Sigler discusses her debut short story collection, The Galaxie and Other Rides, explaining the inspiration for her gritty subject matter and her unique writing process.
"Owen" tells the story of a young man hiding from his present predicament in memories from the past. With each new flashback, we learn of the intimate bond he shares with his brother, and how this bond could lead him, in the end, to making the darkest of decisions.
We are still working away on all of our new and exciting features, so TBL is continuing to feature some of our favorite flash fictions. "Memories Like Heat" tells the story of a father’s regret, while "Unknown Warrior" follows the last moments of a young man dying in a foreign land. Lastly, in "Research into Living," a man is shown at the start of something new.
Four months, nine authors, and 7,000 words later, our group-writing story, “Crossroads,” has finally come to a shocking and glorious conclusion. From the humble beginnings of one demon lawyer, nervous about signing his first client, our story followed young Mr. Braks as he fought against elemental monsters, competing firms, crazy southern women, and ubiquitous penis allusions. Every time we believed he was finally in the clear, another crisis—or shocking discovery—would pop up (much like Mourning Wood), burying him in yet deeper trouble. However, with the new addition from Julia Llewellyn, Mr. Braks’ calamitous first day will finally end (with a good dose of Llewellyn comeuppance thrown in for good measure).
Thank you all who contributed to writing his amazing story. It’s been a blast! The complete tale will also be published in TBL’s Fall Quarterly Journal.
Dear TBLers!
Exciting new changes are underway here at Tethered by Letters! In
the next few months, our journal will be transitioning to a quarterly
publication, brimming with more amazing stories, reviews, new articles,
and group writing projects. While our journal will remain free on the
website, we will also be releasing an electronic magazine edition on
Amazon available via subscription. This transition will also allow us to
start our exciting quarterly short story and flash fiction competitions,
where our most talented members can earn prize money as well as
publication for their winning works. The first quarterly edition will be
published on October 1st.
Along with the new journal, we are also enhancing our online writing
community. Throughout July, our team of programmers and graphic
designers will be creating an interactive community center where writers
can create their own profiles, network with other writers, and upload
works-in-progress for peer review. Although these peer publications
will not count as publishing credit, our editors will review the top-rated
stories and consider them for publication with our journal.
Although we are extremely excited about these new changes, it does
mean that for the next few months, we will be running a reduced
schedule of publications in the journal. Dually Noted, our weekly group-
writing project, will continue to be published throughout the year, but
our Noteworthy and Bolide publications will be running selections from
the Archives through September. Tethered Tidings, our monthly author
interview and book review, will return with TBL's own Josie Sigler,
author of The Galaxie and Other Rides, in September, and Antoine Wilson,
author of Panorama City, in October.
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to exploring
these exciting changes with you all. If you would like to know more
about our upcoming quarterly publication, the new community center, or
the fall literary competitions, please contact us here!
Without wax,
The TBL Team
